Fat Dog Studio

Shanghai, China

Fat Dog Studio is located in Shanghai, China. It is owned and operated by Starcle Music, a music school that offers music performance, composition, writing and production education. It is more of a hybrid live space than a dedicated studio. The control room is the balcony above a dedicated vocal booth. The mixing “nook” overlooks the rest of the room, which has a stage for intimate live performances. The entire space gets a warm and inviting vibe from the slat wood panels that hide the dampening material and wood framing underneath. The Yamaha TF5 digital console serves as the board for the live performance side of things, while the 96 point TT patchbays’ help couple the inputs from the stage and vocal booth to an Apogee Symphony 16x16 with 8 mic preamps. Other mic preamp flavors are provided by Universal Audio and Rupert Neve Designs. The monitors are Neumann KH-120, bolstered by a Neumann KH-750 subwoofer. The cable mess is thanks to the numerous students who work on projects and hone their production and mixing skills.
